YouTube Thumbnail Designer – UK House Renovation Channel

Hi! I’m looking for a YouTube thumbnail designer to help create high-CTR thumbnails for my renovation and DIY YouTube channel.

Each week, you’ll design 3 polished thumbnail iterations for one long-form video (10–15 minutes). These thumbnails will be used for A/B/C testing inside YouTube’s built-in testing feature. As the channel grows, this will increase to 6 thumbnails per week (for 2 videos).

The goal is simple: create psychologically powerful thumbnails that make people want to click - combining storytelling, emotion, and curiosity, while remaining consistent with the channel’s developing visual brand.

???? WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Design 3 unique, upload-ready thumbnails for each video, following the “rule of 3 focus areas” (e.g. face or character, 4–5 words of text max, and one key object or visual element).
- Ensure every thumbnail is immediately clear, scroll-stopping, and visually balanced at small screen sizes.
- Design either from scratch or using provided reference thumbnails or stills.
- Maintain consistency with channel branding - colours, fonts, and tone will evolve, and you’ll help shape that direction.
- Apply click psychology principles (rule of thirds, emotion, tension, curiosity gaps, contrast, and composition).
- Deliver all 3 thumbnails within 48–72 hours of receiving the brief.
- Communicate clearly via WhatsApp for feedback and iteration.
- Send final files via WeTransfer.
- Be open to feedback and minor revisions if needed.

???? WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR

- Proven experience designing YouTube thumbnails that have achieved high CTRs (7%+).
- Strong understanding of visual psychology and what drives clicks on YouTube.
- Excellent eye for composition, colour, and emotion.
- Fast and reliable designer who can hit weekly turnaround times.
- Able to work independently but communicate frequently and clearly.
- Fluent in English - you’ll need to understand the context of each video to design effectively.
- Comfortable working with briefs for renovation/DIY/lifestyle content.
