About the Role
We’re looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, and creative Virtual Assistant to help us with weekly research, content creation, and light Canva design work. You’ll be working with both AI tools and manual research to keep our content accurate, engaging, and aligned with San Diego’s local culture. We’ll provide training and examples to guide you through our existing workflow. This is a part-time gig but responsibilities can expand depending on quality of work.
Responsibilities
1. Weekly San Diego Event Research
* Research and collect all local events happening each week (concerts, festivals, markets, comedy shows, etc.).
* Fill out our Google Sheet by Tuesday (PST) each week with: Event Type | Event Name | Description | Dates | Hyperlink | Instagram | Location
* Use official and community sources such as VisitSanDiego, NBC San Diego, Eventbrite, San Diego Reader, San Diego Magazine, and venue calendars.
* You may use ChatGPT or AI tools to speed up research — but you must manually review each response, fix URLs and Instagram links, and add events the AI misses but doing research on the websites above.
* After submission, review the AI-generated weekly article (auto-created from your event data) and check for accuracy, correct links, and formatting.
Here is the example of an article we generate using AI based on the data that will be filled out in the Google Sheet.
2. Weekly News Review for Newsletter
* Each week, we automatically pull around 400+ San Diego news articles into a Google Sheet.
* Your task is to review the headlines, identify 7–10 of the most interesting or relevant stories, and mark them for inclusion in our weekly newsletter.
* You’ll get access to previous newsletters and training examples to understand our tone and how we select stories (funny, viral, or uniquely “San Diego”).
3. Canva Design & Social Media Posts
* Use our Canva templates to create simple, clean Instagram posts for viral or trending San Diego news stories.
* Generate or find an appropriate AI stock image for each post (we’ll provide access to our paid Canva account).
* Write a short, catchy headline and a one-sentence caption that fits our humor and style.
