Startup Bookkeeper / Accountant (NTH: Xero + U.S. Startup Experience)

MCT is a U.S.-based C-Corp startup developing AI solutions for climate and sustainability. We are an early-stage company, pre-revenue, with venture capital and grant funding. Our team is distributed, and we use Xero for accounting and Gusto for payroll.
We are looking for a Philippines-based CPA / experienced bookkeeper to help us maintain clean, investor-ready books, working alongside our US team.

???? Responsibilities
Maintain Xero accounting system (bank feeds, credit card feeds, reconciliations).
Categorize and track expenses.
Record payroll journal entries from Gusto (wages, taxes, benefits. Xero & Gusto already connected.
Manage reimbursements, prepaid expenses, and accruals.
Prepare monthly financial reports from Xero (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
Assist with grant-related reporting.
Support our U.S. CPA with quarterly reviews and year-end filings.

? Requirements
CPA license or strong equivalent accounting background.
Experience with U.S. clients (startups preferred).
Proficiency in Xero or other cloud-based accounting tools.
Experience with Gusto payroll or similar systems.
Understanding of basic U.S. GAAP principles and basic tax filing.
Excellent communication skills (English, written and spoken).
Reliable, detail-oriented, proactive.

Experience with venture-backed startups.
Familiarity with grant accounting/reporting.
Knowledge of financial modeling and budgeting.
Familiarity with tools like Xero, Gusto, Google Drive, Odoo.
Tax filing experience
