CONTENT MANAGER FOR COLONEL HEMP - INDUSTRIAL HEMP EDUCATION BRAND
We're launching Colonel Hemp, an educational media brand about industrial hemp (construction, farming, products, sustainability). We built America's first permitted hemp homes in 2008 and have 20 years of hands-on expertise across the entire hemp value chain.
We need a Content Manager to transform our knowledge and existing assets into a content engine that drives growth, generates leads, and positions us as THE authority in industrial hemp education.
WHAT WE HAVE:
- YouTube channel since 2012 (147 subscribers, ready for relaunch as Colonel Hemp)
- 4,000+ LinkedIn followers
- Terabyte of professional footage from 2017 hemp building projects across the US (unedited, ready to extract)
- Two credentialed on-camera experts:
- 20-year industry pioneer who built America's first permitted hemp homes
- Agricultural geneticist and Oaksterdam University faculty member
- Hemp Town on Main 501c3 nonprofit (veterans shelter, educational mission)
- Established websites:
- Clear brand identity: personality-driven educational content (think Colonel Sanders meets hemp education)
YOUR ROLE:
CONTENT PRODUCTION (40% of your time):
- Source, hire, and manage video editor(s) - we provide separate $
- Coordinate extracting content from our terabyte of 2017 footage (blooper reels, educational shorts, building project showcases)
- Manage monthly filming sessions with our founders (they record 60-90 minutes of raw content, you orchestrate the rest)
- Quality control all edited content before posting
- Develop content calendar mixing educational, personality-driven, and mission-focused content
DISTRIBUTION & GROWTH (30% of your time):
- Post 4-5 times weekly across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn,
- Write platform-optimized captions and descriptions (educational but engaging, authentic not corporate)
- Schedule and manage content pipeline across all platforms
- Cross-promote
- Optimize content for discoverability and algorithm performance
COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT (20% of your time):
- Monitor comments across all platforms
- Respond to general questions or flag important ones for founder input
- Track analytics: views, engagement, subscriber growth, traffic sources, lead attribution
- Identify top-performing content and replicate what works
- Research trending hemp and sustainability topics for content opportunities
STRATEGY & PARTNERSHIPS (10% of your time):
- Monthly reporting: growth metrics, top performers, strategic recommendations
- Help secure and manage industry sponsor relationships (goal: 15-20 sponsors at $1,000-5,000 each)
- Quarterly strategy sessions with founders
- Stay current on platform algorithm changes and best practices
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS:
MONTH 1:
- Hire video editor using our budget (you'll manage them ongoing)
- Launch blooper reel from 2017 footage as our first major content piece
- Rebrand YouTube channel to "Colonel Hemp"
- Set up posting infrastructure and content calendar
- Goal: 50-80 videos posted across platforms
MONTH 2:
- Systematize content workflow (founders record ? editor produces ? you post)
- Hit consistent 4-5 posts per week cadence across all platforms
- Begin outreach for industry sponsorships
- Goal: 1,000-2,000 new subscribers
MONTH 3:
- Content engine running smoothly with minimal founder involvement
- First sponsorships secured
- Analytics showing clear growth trajectory
- Goal: 2,000-5,000 total subscribers
SUCCESS METRICS:
- 6 months: 10,000-15,000 followers across platforms, consistent posting, smooth workflow
- 12 months: 20,000-30,000 followers, 20%+ of business leads cite our content
- 18 months: 50,000+ followers, recognized as THE authority in industrial hemp education

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
REQUIRED:
- 2+ years managing social media for creators, brands, or B2B companies (show us your results)
- Proven YouTube and/or TikTok growth experience (platform-specific knowledge is critical)
- Excellent English writing skills - you can make industrial hemp interesting and engaging
- Project management ability - coordinate editors, timelines, deliverables without hand-holding
- Self-directed and proactive - we're busy running the business, need someone who takes ownership
- Strong understanding of video content metrics and what drives performance
HIGHLY VALUED:
- Experience with B2B or educational content (not just influencer/lifestyle content)
- Knowledge of or genuine interest in hemp, sustainability, construction, or agriculture
- Basic video editing knowledge (helps you QC editor work and communicate effectively)
- Familiarity with content tools: CapCut, Canva, scheduling platforms, analytics dashboards
- Track record building channels from small to significant following (show us the growth curves)
BONUS POINTS:
- You're genuinely passionate about hemp, sustainability, green building, or social impact
- You've worked with nonprofits or mission-driven organizations
- You understand long B2B sales cycles (our customers research for months before buying)
- You've been part of a scrappy startup that scaled successfully
- You have experience with US markets and audiences
COMPENSATION & LOGISTICS:
- $1,200-1,400 USD per month to start (15-20 hours per week)
- Separate $
- Growth potential to $2,000-2,500/month full-time (30-40 hours/week) within 6-12 months based on performance and channel growth
- Fully remote, flexible schedule (some overlap with US Pacific time zone helpful for occasional questions/calls)
- 30-day trial period where both sides evaluate fit
- Long-term opportunity (6+ months minimum, ideally 1-2+ years as we grow)
- Potential for equity/profit sharing as we scale and approach acquisition
