About Us

Ascent Counsel is a U.S.-based boutique legal recruiting firm. We focus on partner and associate placements at Am Law 100/200 firms and elite boutiques, with a particular emphasis on the Chicago legal market.

We are seeking a Market Research Assistant to help us track attorney lateral moves and law firm growth/attrition trends. This role is research and reporting focused — not candidate list-building.

---

Responsibilities

Track Lateral Moves:

Monitor legal industry sources (ALM/Law.com, Law360 “On the Move,” Above the Law, firm press releases, LinkedIn updates) for attorney moves.

Identify who moved, from where to where, practice group, and office location.

Summarize Market Activity:

Weekly digest: highlight which firms are gaining attorneys and which are losing them.

Track notable practice group moves, office expansions, or firm launches.

Maintain a Moves Tracker:

Log each move into a Google Sheet with: Date, Name, From Firm, To Firm, Practice, City, Source Link, Notes.

Color-code by partner/counsel/associate so trends are easy to see.

Each week we will look at a different city and every quarter we will do a summary based on a few firms I will select for analysis.

Support Content Creation:

Provide research for LinkedIn commentary (e.g. “This week, BakerHostetler added another corporate partner in Chicago while Jenner lost one to Winston”).

---

Qualifications

Required:

Strong research skills (LinkedIn, news monitoring, web searches).

Experience with market research, lead generation, or business intelligence.

Good written English and ability to summarize clearly.

Proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel.

Preferred:

Prior experience in legal research, legal recruiting, or law firm support work.

Familiarity with U.S. law firms or legal industry publications.

---

What We Offer

Remote, flexible schedule (~10 hrs/week).

Consistent workload and clear deliverables (weekly move reports).

Long-term engagement with potential to expand hours as needed.

Training on the U.S. legal recruiting market.

---

???? How to Apply

Send your resume/CV.

In 2–3 sentences, describe your research experience.

Please be prepared to complete a short sample research task (e.g., track 3 lateral partner moves into/out of Chicago firms from this past quarter)
