Paralegal – Personal Injury/Medical Malpractice
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Paralegal to join our litigation team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting attorneys with all aspects of personal injury and medical malpractice cases—from intake through trial and appeal. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, knowledge of medical and legal terminology, and the ability to manage complex files in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Case Management
• Organize, maintain, and update case files in the firm’s case management system (e.g., SmartAdvocate).
• Track deadlines, court dates, discovery schedules, and statutes of limitation.
• Medical Records & Evidence
• Obtain, review, and summarize medical records, radiology reports, billing statements, and employment records.
• Identify missing documentation and follow up with providers and institutions.
• Prepare medical chronologies and case timelines for attorney review.
• Litigation Support
• Draft and file pleadings, discovery demands/responses, subpoenas, notices to admit, motions, and affidavits.
• Assist with deposition preparation, including organizing exhibits and preparing outlines.
• Coordinate expert witnesses and assist with expert disclosures.
• Client & Witness Communication
• Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing case updates and gathering information.
• Schedule and prepare clients for depositions, IMEs, and trial appearances.
• Trial Preparation
• Organize trial binders, witness lists, exhibit lists, and jury instructions.
• Assist attorneys in courtroom logistics and trial support as needed.
Qualifications
• Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in personal injury or medical malpractice litigation.
• Experience with a U.S. personal injury law firm is strongly preferred.
• Skills
• Strong knowledge of legal procedures, court rules, and filing requirements in New York (or applicable jurisdiction).
• Familiarity with medical terminology and comfort reviewing complex medical records.
• Proficiency with case management software (SmartAdvocate a plus), Microsoft Office Suite, and e-filing systems (NYSCEF, federal courts).
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative team environment.
