Shopify Subscription App

We’re looking for an experienced Shopify App Developer (full-stack) to build a custom Shopify app that combines subscription logic with personalized product bundling via customer quizzes.

The goal is to let customers complete a quiz, receive tailored product recommendations, and subscribe to recurring personalized bundles. Customers should also have a self-service portal where they can pause, skip, or modify their subscription.

This app will be used by eCommerce brands (starting with our own large follower base), so it needs to be user-friendly, scalable, and designed for long-term growth.

Shopify App Development (Non-Negotiable)

Strong experience with Shopify API (especially Billing API, Checkout API, and the Subscriptions API).

Knowledge of Shopify Polaris (React) for the app UI so it looks native.

Experience publishing on the Shopify App Store (requirements, approval process, recurring billing setup).

Familiar with embedded apps (OAuth, merchant authentication).

Backend Development

Node.js or Ruby on Rails (both popular for Shopify apps; Node is more common now).

Experience with REST + GraphQL APIs (Shopify uses GraphQL heavily).

Database design for storing subscription, customer, and analytics data (Postgres/MySQL).

Secure architecture (OAuth, webhooks, handling sensitive data).

Frontend Development

React / Next.js (most Shopify apps use this stack).

Ability to implement clean dashboards (for churn, AOV, etc.) and subscription page templates.

Comfort with Shopify’s Liquid templating engine (for subscription page integration).

Payment & Dunning Systems

Experience with Stripe / Shopify Payments integration.

Knowledge of dunning flows (retry logic, failed payments, notifications).

Bonus: familiarity with fraud prevention/chargeback tools.

AI Integration (Optional for v1, Must for Differentiation)

Strong API integration skills (OpenAI, Claude, or similar).

Prompt engineering (designing reliable AI outputs for copy, upsells, churn flows).

Basic ML understanding (for churn prediction later, though you can start with rules).

Ability to fine-tune or plug into models if you scale AI features.

Data & Analytics

Building simple dashboards (MRR, churn %, AOV, subscriber growth).

Familiar with data pipelines (ETL from Shopify events into your DB).

Ability to generate insight reports merchants can understand.

DevOps / Scalability

Cloud hosting (AWS, GCP, or Heroku to start).

CI/CD pipelines (so you can push updates safely).

Logging + monitoring (because Shopify apps at scale break easily with webhook floods).

Full-stack engineer with Shopify app experience (this is the #1 filter).

Comfortable in Node.js + React/Next.js stack.

Has shipped at least 1 app to the Shopify App Store.

Bonus: Has worked with subscription systems or SaaS billing before.
