What you’ll do
Own month-end close (accrual), reconciliations, AP/AR, and cash management for US startup entities.
Maintain clean, GAAP-compliant ledgers in QuickBooks Online and/or Xero; set up charts of accounts tailored to SaaS/e-comm/startup workflows.
Build and maintain integrations with banks and fintech tools (e.g., Brex, Mercury, Ramp,
Prepare management reports: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis; deliver clear notes and action items.
Partner with founders/ops to improve processes (billing, expense policies, approvals) and support audits/tax prep.
Support US compliance: manage W-9 collection and 1099-NEC preparation, maintain a simple compliance calendar for key federal/state tax deadlines, assist with sales/use tax data prep and payroll tax tie-outs, and coordinate with external CPAs on corporate returns (e.g., 1120/1065) and year-end adjustments.
What you’ve done
CPA (required) with 2+ years professional experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
Hands-on with QuickBooks Online and Xero (certifications a plus); familiarity with other startup tools and bank feeds.
Experience with US-based companies or clients & startup environment preferred
Comfortable with integrations & automation (rules, bank feed cleanup, CSV imports; bonus: Zapier/Make).
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivots, basic modeling and data cleaning).
Solid grasp of accrual accounting, revenue/expense recognition, and reconciliations.
Familiar with US tax workflows relevant to bookkeeping (W-9/1099 vendor management, basic sales/use tax concepts, payroll tax forms 940/941, and coordination with tax preparers).
