POSITION OVERVIEW

The Application Developer focuses on maintaining, improving, and expanding our internal CRM system. You will work closely with the Director of Web Services, other programmers, and department stakeholders to translate business needs into practical solutions in our custom Laravel environment. The work is primarily internal. In some scenarios, you may also contribute programming work to client application projects, such as developing new features, fixing bugs, or integrating with external systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Collaborate with the Director of Web Services, other programmers, and department stakeholders to gather requirements and turn them into technical tasks.

Design, develop, and maintain features in the CRM using PHP (Laravel), MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.

Work with fellow developers on code reviews, shared libraries, and consistent coding standards.

Use GitHub Copilot or a similar AI coding assistant in daily development to improve speed and quality.

Debug and resolve application issues, including database queries, schema changes, and performance tuning.

Implement secure coding practices and monitor application performance and reliability.

Write clear internal documentation for features, processes, and data flows.

Participate in Git workflows for version control, branching, and pull requests.

Occasionally perform programming work on client applications, including building new functionality, bug fixes, and integrations.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

4+ years in application development.

Proficiency with:

PHP 7.3+ (Laravel 5.8+ preferred) including Eloquent ORM, migrations, Blade templating, queues/schedulers, validation, and RESTful APIs.

MySQL/MariaDB (schema design, indexing, query optimization).

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.

Experience with authentication/authorization frameworks (roles/permissions, policies, middleware).

Familiarity with PDF/CSV/Excel generation and export processes.

Experience using GitHub Copilot or a similar AI-assisted coding tool.

Proficient with Git and GitHub (pull request workflow).

Comfortable working in a Linux-based environment with basic CLI, permissions, and web server configuration knowledge (Apache/Nginx, PHP-FPM, SSL/TLS).

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Redis (caching/queues) and Horizon.

Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue, Alpine, React, etc.).

Experience with AI API integrations (e.g., OpenAI).

CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and automated testing.

Performance monitoring and profiling (Sentry, ELK).

Docker and containerized development environments.
