Virtual Assistant for Local Newsletter Company

About us
We are a local media company operating local newsletters across Ontario, Canada. We are looking for someone to help with the creation of these newsletters.

Role overview
You will research stories and events from 20+ local sources, decide what is worth featuring, draft short readable blurbs with AI support, format content in Beehiiv, and create a simple IG post using our templates. You will follow our guides and improve them as you learn.

What you will do

Daily or issue-day research across a set list of local news and event sites.

Filter items for relevance, novelty, accuracy, and local impact.

Use AI to draft blurbs and event summaries, then human-edit for clarity and a friendly, neutral tone.

Format issues in Beehiiv (newsletter platoform). Add links, images, UTM tags, sections, and page breaks.

Create one Iinstagram post per issue in Canva from our templates. Write a tight caption and hashtags.

Keep a source log in google sheets.

Fact-check names, dates, locations, and prices. Attribute sources when required.

Communicate status, blockers, and ideas in a short daily check-in.

Success looks like:

95% of chosen stories match our audience interests.

Consistent on-time delivery before internal deadlines.

Clean Beehiiv formatting with zero broken links or image issues.

IG assets ready with caption and link in bio notes.

Clear documentation of sources and decisions.

Skills

Strong editorial judgment. You can tell what is newsworthy for a local audience and what to skip, and you can explain why.

Excellent English writing and editing. Simple, concise, error-free.

Proven research ability. Fast at scanning many sites, verifying facts, and organizing links.

Experience using a newsletter management platform like Beehiiv is preferred but not necessary.

Canva proficiency for simple social graphics.

Confident using AI tools to draft and then improve with human edits.

High reliability, ownership, and proactive communication.
