Paralegal – Legal Research & Writing

Firm: San Nicolas Law Office, LLC
Location: Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (U.S. territory)
Practice Areas: Criminal & civil litigation, with emphasis on criminal defense, probate, and real estate transactions
Experience of Principal: 20+ years in practice

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal with strong legal research and writing skills to support a busy criminal and civil practice. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-moving litigation environment.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct legal research (CNMI, federal, Ninth Circuit) and draft memoranda, motions, pleadings, discovery requests/responses, and correspondence

Cite-check and proof using Bluebook standards; assemble exhibits, appendices, and tables

Manage case files, calendars, and deadlines; assist with CM/ECF and local e-filings

Support hearings, trials, and transactions: witness/exhibit prep, trial notebooks, subpoenas, recordings, and logistics

Probate & real estate: prepare petitions, inventories, conveyancing/escrow docs, lien/recording packets, and closing checklists

Client intake, fact development, records requests, and communications with courts/agencies

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate or equivalent training preferred

2+ years paralegal experience (criminal defense and/or civil litigation); probate/real estate exposure a plus

Demonstrated excellence in legal research & persuasive writing

Proficiency with Westlaw/Lexis, Microsoft 365, and Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with Ninth Circuit and CNMI practice helpful

Impeccable attention to detail, confidentiality, and professional judgment; ability to manage multiple deadlines
