Overview:
We're looking for a skilled iOS Engineer to build a wellness monitoring app that helps families support each other. This is a privacy-first application requiring someone who understands the nuances of background processing, HealthKit integration, and secure data handling.
The ideal candidate has experience with apps that run efficiently in the background, respect user privacy, and handle sensitive data. You'll work closely with our technical lead, designer, and backend developer to deliver a production-ready app.
Work Details:
Type: Project-Based (17-week initial engagement with potential for ongoing work)

Project Scope:
Build native iOS app from scratch
Implement behavioral monitoring with background processing
Integrate Apple HealthKit and location services
Implement Apple in-app subscriptions (StoreKit 2)
Timeline: ~17 weeks to App Store submission
Key Technical Challenges:
Efficient background processing without battery drain
Privacy-first architecture with on-device data processing
Smooth HealthKit and location services integration
Reliable push notifications for time-sensitive alerts
Apple subscription implementation with receipt validation
Responsibilities:
Build native iOS app using Swift/SwiftUI
Implement background monitoring for:
Location patterns (detecting isolation)
Activity data from HealthKit
Sleep and movement patterns
Integrate with RESTful backend APIs
Implement secure data storage and transmission
Build Apple in-app subscription system
Optimize for battery life and performance
Collaborate on TestFlight beta testing
Support App Store submission process
Required Experience:
3+ years building and shipping iOS apps
Strong proficiency in Swift and SwiftUI
Experience with:
HealthKit integration
Core Location and geofencing
Background processing and task scheduling
Push notifications (local and remote)
StoreKit for in-app purchases/subscriptions
Understanding of iOS security and privacy best practices
Experience with encrypted data storage
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and JSON
Git version control proficiency
Critical Skills:
Experience with apps that run in background
Understanding of iOS battery optimization
Knowledge of Apple's privacy requirements
Experience with sensitive data handling
Ability to write maintainable, well-documented code
Nice to Have:
Experience with wellness, health, or family safety apps
Knowledge of behavioral monitoring techniques
Experience with apps for multiple age groups (young adults to 65+)
Familiarity with mental health app requirements
Understanding of GDPR/COPPA compliance
Experience with React Native (for potential future Android version)

Trial Task: Shortlisted candidates will complete a paid technical task involving HealthKit integration. You'll have 48 hours to complete the task, followed by a short technical interview.
