I’m looking for an estimator to help my construction company. Speed and precision are my criteria.
Please read the whole description carefully before applying. There is an instruction at the end.
======= More about the company and the job =======
The company specializes in the new construction of commercial and industrial spaces, commercial renovations tailored to tenants' specifications, residential renovations, and residential restorations.
We follow the Canadian BC building code. However, experience from any other Canadian province or the USA is sufficient
We use the Houzz tool for estimating. It is similar to PlanSwift, Jobber, etc. The approach is the same.
======= Job responsibilities =======
Almost every week, you will receive one or more estimate requests. Your job would be to estimate those projects. Those are details expected as a result of your work:
* Detailed breakdown of material and labour costs
* Markup analysis
* Overhead
* Material lists
* Estimation of time allocation
* Commercial proposal
* In case we work with government or private sector tenders, we might require special documentation such as a further breakdown, description of process, etc.
After the estimate is prepared, the project manager will analyze and give feedback if anything should be improved.
======= Required qualifications and skills =======
* Previous experience as a construction estimator (minimum 2 years preferred)
* Experience with Houzz, PlanSwift, Jobber, or similar estimation tools
* Familiarity with Canadian (preferably BC) or US building codes
* Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
* Ability to interpret architectural plans and specifications
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple estimates at once
======= Working conditions =======
* You report to the business owner
* The deadline for each estimate is arranged with the business owner
* No working hours - you plan as you wish to meet the deadline
* One-time stipend for home office equipment or faster internet
* Annual budget for online courses or workshops
* Polite respectful communication
* Regular check-ins, feedback, and a collaborative approach
* Direct impact on business growth and a company’s revenue
* Payment
* The expected workload is 20-40 hours/week (or sometimes more if you are open to it).
* You get an hourly payment. But my goal is to win those bids. That’s why I would be happy to pay an extra bonus for allocated jobs.
* Payment is being made every second week.
!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT! !!!!!!!!
While applying for the position, please complete these questions to be considered for the role
(Don’t use AI while answering. Honesty for me is more important than “right” answers):
1. What is your estimating experience in the North American market?
2. What can you tell about your ability to estimate labor for the project?
3. What do you do to make a bid attractive enough to win yet profitable enough to make a sufficient margin?
4. Have you ever prepared documentation for tenders (a nice-to-have skill)? And if so, provide an example, please.
5. When can you start working?
Applications without answers to these questions WILL NOT be considered.
