JOB OVERVIEW

About the Role:
I’m a licensed psychotherapist and writer, and the creator of a YouTube video essay series that explores the intersection of psychology, philosophy, and culture. I’m seeking a detail-oriented and media-savvy Research Assistant to help source high-quality visual and video content that illustrates the ideas I discuss in my work.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys spending time online, has a strong grasp of current trends in digital culture, and is able to discern meaningful and relevant media examples. If you're intellectually curious, organized, and already familiar with platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram—and you know how to stay copyright-compliant—I'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Locate short-form video clips (primarily from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts) that effectively illustrate key psychological, cultural, or philosophical concepts discussed in upcoming scripts.

Find photographs and illustrations of public figures, theorists, or thinkers mentioned in essays (using public domain sources or proper image licensing).

Watch selected YouTube videos and create clear, timestamped notes summarizing relevant quotes or ---------- nts.

Track sources meticulously and ensure all material is legally usable (no copyright violations).

Use a VPN to ensure access to U.S.-based content (especially important for TikTok and YouTube searches).

Organize and share research findings weekly in a clear, searchable format (e.g., Google Sheets or Notion).

Requirements:

Strong familiarity with TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram content discovery tools

Solid understanding of copyright and fair use guidelines (or willingness to learn and apply them)

Access to a VPN to browse and source U.S.-based content

Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

Interest in psychology, philosophy, cultural critique, or adjacent fields

Reliable internet connection and self-motivated work ethic

Nice to Have (but not required):

Experience with video editing or scripting workflows

Familiarity with academic or journalistic research practices

To Apply:
Please send a note explaining your interest in the role, along with:

A few favorite TikToks, YouTube videos you think reflect smart cultural commentary
