Job Description:
As a Physics Programmer at Happy Little Games, you will be responsible for supporting and enhancing the physical simulation systems that drive our gameplay. You'll use Unreal Engine 5's physics tools to create and refine physical interactions, collaborating closely with designers and animators to make the game feel satisfying, immersive, and responsive. Your work may include hit reactions, knockback, destructible objects, ragdolls, and physically driven animations using both Blueprints and C++.
We're looking for someone who is excited about applying physics to gameplay and open to experimentation and iteration. This position is open to both experienced developers and early-career candidates with a strong foundation in physics and a passion for game development.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain physics-driven features using Unreal Engine 5 (Chaos Physics), Blueprints, and C++
- Develop and refine physical interactions such as hit reactions, knockbacks, ragdolls, and physical animations
- Collaborate with gameplay designers and animators to support features that rely on believable physics
- Tune and debug physics-based behaviors to ensure they feel responsive and consistent across systems
- Set up constraints, joints, forces, and other physical components as needed for character or world interaction
- Identify edge cases or bugs in physics behavior and propose creative solutions
- Contribute ideas and feedback to improve gameplay through physics integration
Compensation:
In addition to competitive wages, we offer uncapped profit share! We are open to negotiations on further compensation. If you can meet our needs at a higher hourly rate but in less time, we're open to that as well. For an exceptional candidate, we're willing to negotiate to make it work!
