AI Illustrator & Book Designer VA

Project Overview:
We’re seeking a talented, AI-assisted illustrator and layout designer to help create a growing series of children’s books and manga-style titles across multiple age levels.

This is an ongoing, part-time freelance role (5–10 hours per week), with flexible working hours and just one weekly Zoom call to review progress and provide creative direction.

We are producing books for a range of readers:
Ages 3–5: Full-color picture books with minimal text
Ages 6–8: Early reader books with short stories and spot illustrations
Teens and up: Manga-style graphic stories with sequential art

Our top priority is consistent character modeling, so we’re looking for someone who can skillfully use OpenArt.ai or similar platforms (Midjourney, Ideogram, Leonardo.ai, etc.) and refine AI outputs into cohesive visual narratives.

Your Role:
Create engaging characters and scenes using OpenArt.ai or similar
Ensure style and character consistency across all pages
Design page layouts and typeset embedded text for print and digital
Format files for platforms like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, etc.
Attend a weekly creative direction/review call (via Zoom or similar)
Provide editable working files (PSD, Procreate, InDesign, etc.)

You Should Have:
Proficiency with OpenArt.ai or equivalent AI illustration tools
Artistic talent in either traditional or digital media
Ability to do child-friendly illustration, manga styling, or both
Skills in layout design and typography/typesetting
Familiarity with tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva Pro, Procreate

Bonus Points For:
Experience with KDP or IngramSpark publishing
Understanding of child learning stages or educational design
Manga paneling or sequential storytelling experience
Familiarity with Study Tech or simplified readability practices


Commitment:
5–10 hours per week (ongoing)
Weekly feedback/review meeting (time agreed upon)
Multiple books planned for different age levels and styles
