JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Legal Compliance Assistant to support the Business Operations Manager of a Sydney-based electrical and plumbing contracting business. This role is ideal for a law graduate or experienced paralegal with strong written English and a background in regulatory compliance, administrative law, or complaint handling.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with legal documentation, responding to regulatory matters, and preparing professional correspondence for insurance claims and customer complaints - all in line with Australian standards and consumer law.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in drafting, reviewing, and formatting legal and regulatory correspondence
Prepare complaint investigation reports and regulatory responses (e.g. NSW Fair Trading, insurance companies)
Review job records, technician notes, and customer communications to prepare accurate documentation
Monitor compliance with relevant Australian standards (e.g. AS/NZS 3000, Home Building Act, ACL)
Maintain and update compliance registers, document templates, and internal reports
Conduct legal research and summarise findings for internal use
Ensure all documents meet professional and ethical standards

Preferred Experience (Highly Regarded):
Familiarity with Australian consumer law, building regulations, or insurance processes
Experience working with Australian businesses or legal teams
Background in preparing formal reports, legal correspondence, or investigation summaries
Knowledge of [not mandatory] tools such as ServiceM8 Software , Xero, Microsoft Word, and Excell.

Requirements:
Law degree, paralegal qualification, or strong background in legal/admin support
Excellent written and spoken English (essential)
At least 2 years of experience supporting legal, compliance, or administrative functions
High attention to detail, professional judgement, and discretion
Strong organisational skills and ability to handle sensitive information
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
Able to work Australian business hours (preferably 9 AM – 5 PM AEST)
