Azure Backend Developer (Remote)

Project Background

We are developing an innovative AI-driven web platform that delivers personalized content and reports to users. The platform uses a WordPress front-end for the user interface and an Azure serverless back-end for all business logic. Our system integrates OpenAI's GPT-4 (via the OpenAI API) to generate dynamic content and PDF reports for users. We also offer paid services to our users, so the back-end processes payments through Stripe and PayPal and ensures secure data handling. We are a small remote team, and this role will collaborate closely with our WordPress front-end developer and a ChatGPT prompt engineer to build a robust, scalable, and secure backend.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Azure Functions (using HTTP triggers and Queue triggers) to handle core backend logic.
Integrate the OpenAI API (GPT-4) into our Azure Functions to generate content and produce PDF reports for users.

Implement PDF generation for user reports (using appropriate libraries or services) and ensure these files are correctly stored and accessible.

Manage Azure Storage resources, including Azure Queue Storage for asynchronous task processing and Azure Blob Storage for storing generated PDFs and other data.

Set up and handle Stripe and PayPal webhooks to process payments and update system records (e.g., user subscriptions, transaction logs) securely and reliably.

Ensure the backend services are secure, with proper authentication/authorization and data protection measures, and that they can scale effectively to handle increasing load.

Monitor, debug, and optimize the serverless functions for performance and reliability (using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, or similar tools).

Required Qualifications & Tools

Azure Functions Expertise: Hands-on experience building serverless functions on Azure. Experience coding Azure Functions in C#, Python, or Node.js is required.

REST API Integration: Strong understanding of RESTful APIs – able to create and consume APIs. Experience integrating third-party APIs (especially OpenAI or similar AI/ML APIs) is a big plus.

PDF Generation: Experience generating PDF documents programmatically. Familiarity with libraries or services for PDF generation (e.g., iTextSharp, Puppeteer/Headless Chrome for PDF, or similar) is desirable.

Payment Processing: Proven experience integrating payment gateways like Stripe and PayPal. Ability to implement and handle webhook notifications for transactions.

Azure Storage: Familiarity with Azure Storage services, particularly Queue Storage and Blob Storage. Ability to work with queue messages and blob files from Azure Functions.

Deployment & Monitoring: Experience deploying Azure Functions and using Azure tools to monitor performance, logs, and errors. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for Azure Functions is a plus.

Security Best Practices: Understanding of backend security principles, such as protecting secrets (API keys, connection strings), implementing secure API endpoints, and handling user data safely.

Experience: 3+ years of experience in backend or cloud development. Past work with serverless architectures or Azure cloud projects is strongly preferred.

Tools: Comfortable using Git for version control and project collaboration. Experience with project management and communication tools in a remote work environment.

Weekly Commitment
This is a part-time, hourly contract position requiring approximately 20 hours per week. Work hours are flexible as long as you can meet project deadlines and be available for any scheduled team calls or communications. We are looking for someone who can commit to this schedule consistently, and potentially long-term if it's a good fit.
