Website Developer (with experience in Squarespace and Shopify)

We’re looking for a reliable and detail-focused Web Developer to support our studio on a project basis. This role is ideal for someone confident in both Squarespace and Shopify who can bring our website designs to life with precision and care. You’ll be supplied with designs, content, and brand assets, and your role will be to build and publish the website exactly as per the approved design - with a strong focus on quality, responsiveness, and attention to detail. We are a boutique marketing studio in Australia helping high-end service-based businesses grow through branding, websites and strategy. We work closely with our clients to elevate their presence both online and offline, through thoughtfully designed brand identities, professional websites (primarily on Squarespace), and strategic marketing support. We value high-quality presentation, a professional yet relaxed approach, and strong client relationships. As we grow, we're looking to expand our team to support our web development needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Building websites in both Squarespace and Shopify using supplied designs and assets.
Translating approved designs into functional, polished websites with pixel-perfect accuracy.
Confidently applying custom CSS to refine styling and achieve specific design outcomes.
Proficiently implement custom CSS for Squarespace projects when standard template features are insufficient to achieve specific design requirements.
Ensuring all websites are SEO-friendly and follow best practices (titles, descriptions, image tags, etc.).
Making light content adjustments as needed (e.g., copy edits, image swaps, mobile optimization).
Testing responsiveness across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Providing post-build support for minor tweaks or fixes.

Pre-requisites:

Proven experience building websites in both Squarespace and Shopify.
A strong portfolio of website builds with attention to design accuracy and responsiveness.
Solid understanding of custom CSS for styling beyond standard templates.
Reasonable experience and working knowledge of SEO best practices (metadata, page titles, image tags, etc.).
Ability to follow and implement a supplied design exactly as approved by the client.
Confidence in cross-device testing and mobile responsiveness.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to clean, high-quality builds.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve front-end issues independently.
Exceptional communication and time management skills.
Reliable and responsive, with the ability to work project-to-project as needed.
Experience working with creatives or agencies is a bonus.
Willingness to collaborate via tools like Google Drive, Canva, or similar.
A reasonable level of experience and knowledge with SEO is required - including page structure, metadata, alt text, and basic optimization techniques.
Hours and Compensation:

This is a project-based role with flexible hours, depending on workload. Some months may have multiple projects; others may be quieter. Ideally suited to someone who enjoys freelance-style work and is happy to jump in as needed.
Rate: 12 AUD per hour
