Position Details

Full-Time or Part-Time Position: EST daytime hours

Key Responsibilities

Digital Asset Management
- Organize, catalog, and maintain a comprehensive online library of video and audio assets using platforms such as Dropbox and Google Drive.
- Develop and implement a consistent file naming and folder structure for easy retrieval.
- Regularly audit and archive older assets as needed.

Video Editing
- Perform basic video editing tasks such as trimming, cutting, assembling sequences.

Media Transcoding and Conversion
- Transcode video and audio assets into various formats and codecs suitable for different platforms and distribution channels (Planetarium, IMAX).
- Convert audio formats to meet specifications.
- Familiarity with DCP (Digital Cinema Package) creation and distribution for planetarium and IMAX presentations is highly desirable.

Quality Control
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to media files.

Distribution and Delivery
- Manage the secure transfer of large media files using appropriate methods (e.g., FTP, cloud-based services).

Skills

Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Media Encoder, FFMPEG)
Strong understanding of video and audio codecs (e.g., FFMPEG)
Expertise in media transcoding software (FFMPEG)
Familiarity with creation DCP (Digital Cinema Package)
Experience with cloud storage and file-sharing platforms
Excellent organizational and file management skills.
Basic understanding of image sequence workflows.
Basic audio format conversion and editing skills.

Experience

Open for part-time or full time
Experience with planetarium or IMAX content preparation is a plus
Experience working with large video libraries and managing digital assets
Experience working in a fast-paced media production environment

Detailed Responsibilities

Daily

Asset Ingestion & Cataloging: Receive, process, and accurately catalog new media assets (video, audio, images) into the DAM system, ensuring proper metadata and file organization.
Fulfill Asset Requests: Promptly respond to requests for media assets from internal and external stakeholders, providing files in the required formats and timeframes.
DAM System Monitoring: Monitor the DAM system's performance, storage capacity, and identify/report any technical issues.
Quality Control Checks: Perform spot checks on assets to ensure technical quality and adherence to standards.

Weekly

Project Support & Tracking: Track the progress of media-related projects, update documentation, and communicate with stakeholders about timelines and potential roadblocks.
DAM System Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on the DAM system, including database optimization, user permission checks, and storage review.
Backup Verification: Confirm that all media assets are being backed up correctly and address any backup-related issues with IT.
Metadata Review: Regularly review and refine metadata schemas and tagging to improve asset searchability and organization within the DAM.
Team Communication: Participate in weekly meetings, providing updates on asset management activities and project support.

Monthly

Storage & Capacity Planning: Assess current and future storage needs, recommending solutions for expansion or optimization.
Archiving & Purging: Archive older assets to long-term storage and purge obsolete files, adhering to retention policies.
DAM System Performance Review: Analyze DAM system usage, identify areas for improvement, and recommend upgrades or enhancements.
Security & Access Audit: Review user access permissions and security protocols to protect sensitive media assets.
Metrics Reporting & Analysis: Compile and analyze key asset management metrics (ingestion rates, request frequency, etc.) and report findings.
