We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) with feeding experience to join our team. We are a therapist owned and operated company servicing the east valley area (Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, East Mesa, Gilbert). You have full control of your hours and coverage areas. We are not contracted with insurance or DDD so there is a lot more flexibility with this 1099 position!
The COTA will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to provide high-quality patient care in the client's home setting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the pediatric population with a variety of developmental delays and diagnoses, specifically feeding difficulties and picky eating. They will also have the ability to assist families and children in achieving their therapeutic feeding goals through personalized care plans. This role involves working closely with families in order to implement individualized therapy plans that support safe and effective feeding strategies.
*This position is currently for qualified candidates with at least 2 years of pediatric feeding experience.
Duties
Assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans designed by the Occupational Therapist.
Implement individualized treatment plans to address feeding difficulties such as oral-motor delays, sensory aversions, dysphagia, and other feeding-related disorders.
Provide direct therapy services, including oral-motor exercises, sensory integration techniques, and behavioral interventions to improve feeding skills.
Educate and support families and caregivers with strategies to promote successful feeding and mealtime experiences at home.
Monitor patient progress and report any changes or concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
Educate clients and their families on home exercises and strategies to promote continuity of care and success towards meeting their goals.
Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, progress notes, and treatment outcomes in compliance with regulatory standards.
Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care and support occupational health initiatives.
Qualifications
Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
Experience in pediatric feeding therapy, including treatment of feeding and swallowing disorders.
Knowledge of oral-motor development, sensory processing, and behavioral feeding interventions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with families and interdisciplinary teams.
Commitment to evidence-based practices and continued professional development.
Proficiency in clinical documentation and compliance with regulatory standards
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification or specialized training in feeding and swallowing disorders (e.g., SOS Approach to Feeding, Beckman Oral Motor, Get Permission Approach, or similar).
Experience working with medically complex children, neurodivergent populations, and sensory processing disorders.
Familiarity with alternative feeding methods (e.g., NG tubes, G-tubes, thickened liquids).
