JOB OVERVIEW

Insert Coin is Canada’s leading accounting & tax consulting firm for the video game industry.

WHO WE ARE:
As a forward-thinking accounting and tax firm, our culture uniquely aligns with the innovative spirit of the gaming and technology industries we serve across Canada. We are a modern, fully cloud-based firm utilizing the latest technology stack to deliver exceptional service to our clients. Specializing in accounting and tax credit consulting for independent game studios, we have cultivated a dedicated and expanding client base due to our deep understanding of their business and industry needs.

Unlike traditional accounting firms, we foster a dynamic and engaging work environment, free from conventional formalities. Our approach is that of a startup, emphasizing collaboration, efficiency, and exceptional client service. We are looking for people who share these same values and can contribute to our mission of exceeding client expectations.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
We assist clients in obtaining tax credits/rebates related to their video game projects. These credits help them recover some of their expenses. You will work closely with the team to prepare and submit applications for these tax credits. This involves gathering and organizing necessary information about the client's projects and expenses to meet all requirements.

Your main tasks will include understanding the criteria for each tax credit, collecting details from clients, assessing the information, and ensuring the application is complete and meets all standards. You'll also need to communicate with government agencies about submitted applications and provide any additional information they may need.

Additionally, you'll be expected to learn about new tax credit opportunities and stay informed about changes to existing programs. No prior tax experience is required, though having some experience with tax can be helpful.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Quick Learner - While these tax credits can seem daunting at first, they are not hard to learn. We’ll help you get up to speed, provided you put in the effort to learn the guidelines for the various tax credits. You will also have helpful checklists, worksheets, and reference material to guide you through the process.

Analytical Mindset - Key to this role is having the ability to dig into the details, question assumptions, and analyze the information provided to see whether it will meet the criteria for the tax credit program.

Attention to Detail – As an analyst, you care about numbers. But not just on the surface level; when you see something off, you’re the type to dig into issues and resolve them instead of brushing them over. You see the value in having clean, accurate data.

Excel – we’re looking for a true Excel rockstar, manage and interpret any spreadsheet assignments with ease. The person your friends call when they’re stuck with Excel. Someone who lays awake at night thinking about PivotTables and VLOOKUPS. Mastery in handling complex datasets, including payroll reports, timesheet exports, and financial calculations, is essential for success in this role.

Self-starter – you require minimal supervision and take responsibility for getting the work done. We’re not big on micro-management, so you d ---------- how and when the work gets done. You also know where to look or who to ask when you don’t know.
