About The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong experience in membership platforms to help us maintain and improve our current membership WordPress tech stack built on BuddyBoss, MemberPress, and Stripe.

This role is ideal for someone who knows how to get under the hood of WordPress to solve problems and improve functionality—whether creating plugins, customizing existing 3rd party plugins, or improving performance of a membership site. You’ll work closely with our devs, designers and tech team to ensure the backend runs smoothly, features are implemented correctly and quickly, and users have a seamless experience.

What Your Day-To-Day Will Look Like

Plugin Customization & API Work: You’ll dive into custom plugin development using our current platforms, BuddyBoss and MemberPress, build out specific features, tweak existing ones, and work with external APIs and webhooks—especially Stripe—to ensure our payment and user flows run as expected.

Bug Fixing & Troubleshooting: You’ll be the go-to person for diagnosing backend issues—from broken MemberPress access rules to BuddyBoss display bugs to payment-related errors. When needed, you’ll reach out to 3rd party support to fix them efficiently and document what you’ve done.

Backend Maintenance: Help keep our WordPress stack up to date and stable. This includes plugin updates, database optimizations, and keeping an eye on logs and performance.

Version Control & Deployment: Push clean, well-documented code using Git. Work within our staging/production workflow and follow deployment best practices.

Team Collaboration: You’ll work alongside our designers and other developers to bring features to life. You’ll be a contributor with technical insight and hands-on development.

What You Need to Succeed

5+ years of WordPress development experience (specifically with plugins and backend)

Must have experience working with BuddyBoss, MemberPress, or similar membership plugins

Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, and WordPress hooks/actions


Experience integrating with the Stripe API, especially around subscriptions and webhooks

Comfortable working with REST APIs inside and outside of WordPress

Familiar with Git and modern deployment practices

Able to debug plugin conflicts, theme issues, and database errors with minimal guidance

Excellent written communication and the ability to work remotely with a team


Nice to Have

Familiarity with JavaScript/jQuery and AJAX in WordPress


Experience working with BuddyBoss App (React Native)


Understanding of caching, NGINX, or performance tuning for membership sites


Comfortable creating short documentation or Loom walkthroughs to share your process
