The Senior DBA is responsible to support the performance and maintenance of the Press’ databases primarily on Oracle and other databases such as Microsoft SQL and MySQL. The post holder is also expected to implement database changes from engineering team and actively participate in troubleshooting database incidents.
The role is expected to work closely with a large number of technology teams globally, therefore adjustment to work shift is necessary. The post holder would be part of the Data Integrity team with the objective of ensuring the quality of data from end-to-end.
JOB OVERVIEW
• Perform regular monitoring of production and test database health
• Implement database updates and patches
• Perform regular backup and design recovery plans
• Management and recommendation of DBMS software including upgrades, patches, maintenance releases, incidents and tech alerts
• Recommendation and implementations on latest database updates as they become available
• Support of development, test and production database environments including database space management.
• Provide support to development teams for technical issues directly related to databases
• Lead on troubleshooting database issues and document root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
• Implement/execute database scripts as provided by release team, application and database engineers in production database
• Analyse and improve performance of existing databases. Schedule maintenance events/jobs and necessary tunings
• Configure database settings to ensure optimal database performance
• Maintain database support documentations such as installation manuals, release notes, risk register, etc.
• Manage security and access to databases
• Perform data migration and manipulation using SQL as necessary
• Provide regular reports to line manager on DBA accountabilities
• Compliment Data Integrity objective by providing supporting in DBA capabilities and adhering to change policies.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as Database Administrator and Development primarily in Oracle and other databases such as MySQL, and Microsoft SQL.
• Strong command of database modelling and query language (Oracle Database platform and Microsoft SQL)
• Strong knowledge of Oracle database versions in 10g up to latest
• Wide Experience in database backup and recovery
• Wide Experience in database capacity planning including forecast space usage in database
• Working knowledge of Windows server operating systems, ActiveBatch, Active Directory and LDAP
• Proficient in Linux shell scripting
• Experience in using Database monitoring tools for monitoring performance, events to fast detection of database outages / problems.
• Experience with release concepts and software delivery tools such as SVN, Ant, Maven, Bamboo, Liquibase is a plus
• SQL Server DBA certification is a plus
