Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant with a strong background in
Australian Public Practice Taxation to manage and deliver compliance and tax
advisory services across a diverse client portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client Management and Communication
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through excellent
communication skills
- Assist with strategic client meetings and ongoing business engagement
- Communicate effectively with clients, managers, employees, and suppliers
2. Tax Compliance and Advisory
- Prepare, analyze, and verify financial documents for tax returns (individuals,
sole traders, companies, trusts, partnerships, SMSFs)
- Review ATO prefill data, download and retain in client records
- Prepare work papers and retain in client records
- Send tax returns to clients for review and approval before submission
- Forward ATO Notice of Assessment or Income tax statement to clients
- Provide tax advice on Income Tax, PAYGI, PAYGW, CGT, GST, FBT, Payroll Tax,
Division 7A, Land Tax
- Participate in End of Financial Year tax planning with clients
- Identify areas for improving client profitability
- Convey ATO rule changes to clients as they occur
3. ATO and Regulatory Compliance
- Utilize ATO Portal, RAM, ASIC MyGovID, and Aus Industries websites
- Monitor ATO lodgment schedule and meet 95% on-time lodgment benchmark
- Review client lodgment status on ATO portal and manage ATO Tax Agent list
- Assist with ATO payment plans and resolve discrepancies
- Provide data for external audits
4. Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare financial statements and management reports
- Produce error-free accounting reports
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Produce reports on sales forecasts, cash flow, profitability, etc., with analysis
and commentary
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards setting and forecasting
5. Software and Technical Skills
- Proficiency in XERO Tax, XERO Advisor, XERO Payroll, and other accounting
software (MYOB, QBO, XPM)
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and spreadsheet management
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions
- Review and code transactions correctly in accounting software
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years Australian-based Public Practice Taxation experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA, CA, or IPA qualification (or progress towards completion)
- Tax Agent registration desirable
- XERO certifications (Advisor, Payroll)
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills
- Attention to detail and critical thinking abilities
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on tax
legislation and industry trends
