Seeking Our Marry Poppins (Traveling Teacher for 4 Month Contract Teaching 2 Kids)

Hi we’re looking for a highly qualified traveling teacher for our two children (5 and 7) from late August until January 2025. Must be a PH certified teacher in elementary education.

Our travel plans are developing but we are currently planning on visiting: Cebu/Manila, Bali, Koh Samui, Kathmandu, and several other stops in south east Asia.

All food, housing, and travel expenses would be covered. We would also include a stipend for medical insurance.

Traveling with a family is obviously a quite large commitment so there will be several online interviews, reference checks, etc.

We imagine starting the trip from PH where we would be for ~3 weeks to make sure we can find a groove before embarking together.

## About Us:

We are serial entrepreneurs who have hired extensively in PH. I am American and my wife is Spanish. Our home base is in a little country called Andorra. We have two kids, a boy (7) with diagnosed ADHD who loves math and problem solving and daughter (5) who is amazing with languages and arts who appears to have Dyslexia/Discalculia (we are having her tested currently) which runs in our family.

We work with an Umbrella school in the US to help manage the kids education and the complexities of home schooling internationally… but essentially we follow a hybrid curriculum that focuses on Math, English (reading and writing), Spanish (reading/writing) combined with a ton of life experiences.

We like to spend 3-8 weeks in locations depending on visas and activities available. Generally we focus on making sure there are interesting life experiences. Our goal is to help the kids build self confidence and problem solving skills.

As I write this we are currently in Concón, Chile doing Jujitsu, Spanish, and Surf lessons.

## The Work:

To be clear, we aren’t looking for a Nanny which spoils the kids and lets them off easy. We are looking for someone to lead the educational life of our kids.

My wife and I love spending time with our kids and we can/have been leading the educational side… it is a fun balance. :)

As we start planning longer travels, we realized that we could use support and knowing how great Philippine people are we figured if we can find someone amazing… for instance we’d love to do some activities that the kids are just too young for. (My wife wants us to do a 20 day Acro-yoga teachers training in Kathmandu… hard for us to do that and lead education)

In general we foresee 15 hours of education time for each child (30) plus ~20 hours of “other time” a week. “Other time” could be hanging out with the kids doing crafts or it could be running to the grocery store to help with the logistics of travel… etc.

We’d prefer the hours to be highly structured and in each location we will be looking for a private room (if possible even a separate building) where you will be able to get your space and recharge your batteries.

It is also important to note that for some subjects the kids are too far apart in their understanding to be taught together.

## The Pay:

We see this an amazing opportunity for the right individual and us as well. On the application form you’ll see a field to put in your pay requirements. The payment will be inline with the average pay for a very experienced teacher in the Philippines.

Please remember that we will also be covering housing, flights, transportation, and food when eating together. If we do activities together, school supplies, etc. we’ll also be covering that.

Assume 50 hours a week with 4.2 weeks a month.


## The Curriculum:

The biggest questions we foresee from this application is “what’s the curriculum?” Thus far we’ve just purchased the tests that the kids need to past for the year and have been “working backwards” to make sure they understand the concepts they’ll see on the test.

Our goal is to think in projects or groups of experience that involve hands on learning and less “book” time.

Take for instance, the theme of “world history”… instead of just learning facts about the Egyptians and Israelites… just to move on to the Sumerians… we’ve spend time talking about polytheism, monotheism, and spent 2 weeks discussing religion (my wife is Jewish and I was raised mennonite… but neither of us practice a formal religion).

Another example is exploring the Spanish conquest of South America (we haven’t gotten to the Philippines part yet) we spent time in Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile and notice taught the kids how each area has slightly different accents of Spanish and different stories about how the Spanish conquerors impacted their regions. Then to drive the point home on monotheism we’ve been poking our head in every church we can find. (The kids are fluent in Spanish)

Long story short, they are young. There are required items to learn… but in Florida the material required can be covered in very little time. We’re focused on bringing them a more wholistic education. The one both my wife and I wished we had.
