CPA, Department Head in Property Management Company

Head of Accounting Department

Our property management (real estate) firm has an opening in our accounting department for our department head. This includes and is more than a full time, full charge bookkeeper. Our business demands a three person accounting department. We are growing. The applicant must have the following qualifications:

• Can Do Attitude
• Strong experience in Real Estate (property management accounting experience is a +plus+)
• Experience managing others in accounting/bookkeeping
• CPA (or equivalent) Designation
• Strong organization skills
• Strong communication skills
• Familiarity with Financial Statements including Balance Sheets.
• Experience reconciling accounts
• Ability to work five (5) full days per week

Responsibilities include:

• Creating and analyzing monthly financial reports with Financial Statements for multiple (25+) properties
• Monthly review of bills and receipts. This is the full accounting cycle.
• Tracking receivables and payables
• Multiple bank account reconciliations
• Working with outside accountants for clients’ tax matters and returns.
• Internal firm bookkeeping
• Payroll experience
• Yearly Budget preparation & Payroll Audits
• Tracking of water meter reading reports
• Commercial tenant RET escalation & water reimbursement
• Yearly Property tax, water & Insurance payments
• Intercompany reimbursements & transfers
• Yearly tax abatement & tax challenges
• Credit card reimbursements
• Prevailing wages affidavit, DHCR & RPIE processing


Familiarity with New York City regulations and filings is a plus.
Appfolio experience is a big benefit.
