We are seeking a professional diver with a burning desire to teach and further their knowledge of diving and marine conservation. The individual needs to be a team player and willing to carry out general island recreational duties at times.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The handling, preparation and organization of diving trips, including the assembling of guest/team member equipment, boat manifest and head counts.
• The guiding of normal, night, full day, orientation or mini safari dives
• Teaching PADI courses (e.g. Bubblemaker, DS, DSD, SD, OW, AOW, specialties, Rescue, Dive Master, Dive Instructor)
• Adherence to all PADI and Banwa Diving training standards
• The preparation of equipment boxes for new divers.
• The checking in of new divers and students.
• Assisting divers in checking their equipment while on the boat.
• Assisting divers in gearing up.
• Assisting divers to enter the water, especially in rough seas.
• Instructor/Guide doing the current check may decide to change the dive site if he/she finds out that the current is too strong and not appropriate to the level of divers on the boat.
Instructor/Guide and Boat captain must liaise and agree about this before the dive and/or before having jumped in the water.
• Work together to ensure the safety of all guests and team members. If you think that there are any safety issues, do not wait until an accident happens. If you feel something is unsafe or somebody is doing something unsafe report it to the Recreation / Dive Centre Manager right away.
• Assisting divers in exiting the water, (e.g. helping the divers to remove their fins or any other equipment as the guest requests and passing them to the dhoni crew), this must be done with great care as there is always the possibility of injury.
• Helping the boat crew in disassembling equipment and making sure that equipment goes back in the right box.
• Setting up Oxygen kit as needed or delivering First Aid assistance
• Covering the counter shifts and lunch breaks as scheduled.
• Ensuring the general cleanliness and tidiness of all areas of the dive centre.
• The promotion and sales of dive centre activities (e.g. full day trips, night dives, courses and mini safari)
• The promotion and sales of regular dive videos and other products.
• The promotion and sales of the dive centre retail shop (dive wear, dive equipment and accessories).
• Monthly inventory of all dive center items.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCES, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Minimum Professional Association of Diving Instructor (PADI) Open Water Scuba Instructor certification is required.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in a similar role with a hotel or resort
• A required minimum of 300 logged dives
• Excellent knowledge of emergency-first response dive procedures
• Physically fit and able to handle the exertion of repetitive diving
• Equipped with a comprehensive knowledge of diving theory, equipment, safety protocols, and teaching techniques
• Excellent communication skills and customer service
• Passionate and knowledgeable about marine conservation
• Proficient in and passionate about non-motorized water sports is an added advantage, as is boat knowledge and certification
