If you want to be part of a growing small business that's building with AI and shipping fast, you'll like it here.
If you're tired of being one of a hundred engineers maintaining a service you didn't design, this is the opposite. You own the whole stack. You pick your tools. Your work ships in days, not quarters.
About:
The Mousepad Company is a small US-based DTC brand. We make premium gaming and desk mousepads, printed in-house in California. The team is lean and the owner is hands-on. We ship constantly.
The job:
You are the owner's technical right hand. Build and maintain our internal app (OPPY) and our customer-facing creator studio (MPCO Studio). You are the only software person on the team. You ship features, integrations, dashboards, and automations: whatever the business needs that week. We do not have a Jira full of cleanly-scoped tickets waiting for you. You help us figure out what to build next.
What you do:
Phase 1, OPPY (first 30 to 60 days):
Take a list of feature requests and ship them. Make the app more efficient, then faster, then more beautiful, in that order. Examples of what we'll ask for: "I click this button and this data shows up." "This page loads in 4 seconds, get it under 1." "This workflow takes 5 clicks, get it to 2."
Phase 2, MPCO Studio:
Custom mousepad designer web app. Think Figma but exporting creates a print file. More details to be discussed later.
Ongoing:
Slack custom commands. Notion to Shopify integrations.
Compensation:
Monthly salary, paid via Wise. Long-term role. Quarterly performance review with potential raises for top performers.
What we need from you:
You ship fast and constantly. Your last side project shipped in a weekend, not a year.
You live in modern AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, similar) and have opinions on which is best for what.
You are a generalist. You can build a Slack bot in the morning, debug a Shopify webhook at lunch, and ship a financial dashboard in the afternoon.
You read a stack you have never used and ship in it within a week.
You self-direct. Nobody assigns you tickets. You find what matters and do it.
Strong written English.
Willing to work West Coast US hours.
Nice to have:
Built something with creator economy or affiliate program tech before.
Built a design canvas or image-generation tool before.
Shopify, Next.js, Prisma, PostgreSQL, Railway on your résumé.
Slack bots,
A note up front: AI is a tool you live in for this role, so we don't ban it in your application. But generic AI-generated answers are filtered out immediately. Use AI to help you express yourself, not to do the thinking.
To apply, send:
Ship proof.
Link us to something you built recently, alone. Could be a side project, a tool, an integration, anything that ships. Tell us in 3 sentences how long it took and what tools you used to build it.
Workflow Loom.
Record a 90-second Loom screen-share of your actual coding workflow. Show us your editor, your AI tools, how you move. Don't perform. Just show us what a normal afternoon looks like.
Generalist test.
Pick one of these three and tell us in plain English how you'd build it. No code, just your approach.
(a) A Slack command that pulls last week's blended MER from a PostgreSQL database.
(b) A Shopify webhook that auto-creates a Notion task every time a refund over $100 is processed.
(c) A creator dashboard showing creator earnings, active design submissions, and approval status.
