JOB OVERVIEW

About us

23 Creative is a (very) small Digital Design Business in Canberra, Australia, with our primary focus in Web design and development. Clients range from Part-time Startups to National Australian Organisations. About 80% of the work we do will be in Wordpress.

What i like to think we do different from other Wordpress developers is build systems that don't require html knowledge to use. I know it takes longer but i prefer providing clients a product that they can use without needing to contact us to edit or modify.

The role

I want someone who is an expert in the Web development world. Has experience in managing Web projects and client expectations. I should be able to hand over a website design, outlay functionality and requirements and receive a ready to launch website back. You will use your creativity and flair to develop websites, system processes and functionality for a variety of clients across a range of industries. If you love finding an elegant solution to a complicated problem I want to talk to you.

I expect you to be able to view a site design and where needed improve it. I don't want to have to micromanage the project or provide support to build sites. What I don't want is a wordpress site that has lots of plugins installed, any additional functionality to come from our (custom built) theme, or a custom built plugin. All finished work should be optimised for speed (hitting at least 80 on Google Speed index). via lazy loading images and caching.

What you'll do

A typical day in your new role will see you:

• Taking a Photoshop file and converting it to a Wordpress theme
• Working through support tickets and bug fixes.
• Maintaining Content and website systems.
• Reviewing completed websites before launch.
• Doing a bit of grunt work like content migration.
• Updating Clients on the status of their projects.
• Following up with clients for items require to finish their project

What you'll need

• Great work ethic.
• Expert Knowledge of PHP and Javascript - I have 9 years of PHP development experience. I would expect my new hire to be as good or better than myself.
• 5+ years in LAMP development and a proven track record of programming dynamic web applications that utilize a back-end database for persistent data storage.
• Knowledge of and experience in code management tools such as GIT, SVN
• Knowledge and experience with API development and integration (REST, SOAP or JSON-RPC) JavaScript & jQuery
• Knowledge of Wordpress and it's editor Gutenberg.
• Somewhere to work with reliable internet connection, as this position is for a remote work
• Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
• Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
• Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that the application will adhere to them.
• Experience in analytics tools such as Google Analytics

General requirements:

• Strong communication skills.
• Good lateral thinking skills and the ability to think logically and creatively when required.
• Strong Reading and writing skills.

Working for us I would expect you to

• Work 37-40 hours/week.
• Send an email at the end of every day telling what you worked on (even if you didn’t accomplish anything).
• Only have 1 job, working for me.
• You can take off whatever personal time you need, just don’t take advantage of it and let me know in advance.
• Have Equipment and services to complete your job properly (Computer, Internet, Ect)
• I am usually in the office 7am - 5:30PM AEST. I don't really mind what time you work. as long as you’re available for 2-3hours during my work day. So we can chat if needed.
• Use Hubstaff for tracking during work hours

What will ensure for you is:

• Give you support and feedback to work your best.
• Help you if you get stuck on something.
• To be a long-term working relationship. I want a permanent employee
• Pay you fortnightly for hours worked

For work in the office we use (you will be provided a licence for all the below software if needed)

Upgrade to see actual infoat for communication on projects .
• WHMCS for client and project management (Although I'm looking in moving project management systems to a custom built Laravel web app)
• Web work is completed on the office server. Which is a linux box with WHM/cPanel on it. But if you prefer to work locally and upload at the end of the day that is completely fine
• Bitbucket (server) used for Version Control
• OpenVPN to login and work on local servers
• Dropbox for File management
• GSuite for email (used to be for file management but didn’t like it so we switched)
• PHPstorm for Development
• Full Adobe Creative Suite

Im really looking for someone who is an expert in PHP, JS & MYSQL. Please don't submit your resume if you don't have any experience in any of these languages, your just wasting your time. Ill likely be asking for proof of past work for me to do a code review. Im looking for someone that is happy to work from home and set their own hours.
