JOB OVERVIEW

Nathan James is looking for a Software Developer / Quality Assurance Tester to join our team and help us accelerate our API-driven automation projects for Management level reporting while also developing and executing QA Test Plans against feature releases of a ERP System.

We are a design-first, home furnishing company focusing on the habits of urban dwellers and first time home buyers. We pride ourselves on the best in class customer happiness, providing the highest possible quality products that are affordable for the majority and assembly that isn’t dreadful.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

In your capacity as a Software Developer and QA Specialist you will work with our BI Engineer and BI Project Manager by developing, documenting and testing automation projects requested of the BI Team from Leaders across the company. These projects are critical to our growth as they enable our ability to scale by freeing up leaders from data extraction, manipulation, and formatting tasks and instead we empower them through automation and self-servicing of Key Performance Indicators that they need to make timely and data-informed decisions.

As a Quality Assurance Tester, you will work closely with the BI Project Manager and our Software Development Team in defining and executing our QA Test Plans while identifying and reporting on software defects and verifying their resolution when resolved by Development.

While this role does not require experience as a software developer, it is a technical role that requires understanding of the software development lifecycle and experience using Python (or any other languages you've used to make API calls and interact with JSON objects at an end-point) to access API’s, perform data manipulation logic and operate within MySQL. You will also have experience working with Excel Macros and Pivot Tables.

While it is not required, it is preferable and will be given extra weight, if you have experience working with ERP systems particularly in an eCommerce organization.

ABOUT US:

We have a rhythm to our work and a very low turnover rate — we have yet to have a single team member opt-out. Your voice matters to us. We make change from fresh perspectives and appreciate new viewpoints, so you should feel comfortable speaking up about your values and goals.

We’re ready for the ongoing work that goes into building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do the best work of your career. Our values (Upgrade to see actual info) , workplace and our benefits are designed to support a sustainable, healthy relationship with your work. Our operating values provide the framework we use in building a healthy, resilient organization.

You can expect a mindful onboarding process with ramp-up and time to learn. You can expect a team that listens, and to be heard. You can expect to give and provide direct feedback. You can expect to work with good people. You can expect to be counted on. You can expect to do your best work and build a career here.

ABOUT YOU:

We’re looking for an intellectually curious, technically adept data ninja experienced in data extraction, manipulation and automation having required you to retrieve and post data from internal and / or external sources utilizing API’s and scripts. Additionally, if you have any QA Testing experience, particularly in ERP, MRP, CRM or other eCommerce centric applications, make sure to include that in your application. Besides supporting Executives and Decision Makers with critical business intelligence, you will also be working on our proprietary ERP platform as a manual QA Tester.

You love complex challenges, you’re driven by problem solving and delivering solutions with the utmost quality and you abhor defects. If you don’t know how to do something you use existing documentation and your resourcefulness to dive-deep and figure it out.

You don’t require constant hand-holding, but you’re not afraid to speak up when requirements aren’t clear or they require additional context and details. You don’t prioritize speed over quality and you don’t send mistakes down the line. You pay close attention to detail, are passionate about doing things the right way and recognize that proper documentation of your projects is required for maintaining high-quality standards and allowing our company to scale as an internationally-remote workforce.

We require a minimum of two years of experience in data automation specifically accessing JSON objects via API’s and working with the Python programming language. You must also have a minimum two years of experience with databases, preferably MySQL.

This is a remote role since we are a remote company! You’re free to work where you work best, anywhere in the world: home office, coworking space, coffee shops or in Montreal. While we currently have an office in Montreal, you should be comfortable working remotely—most of the company does! That hinges on effective writing, self-discipline, and comfort with open communication.

BENEFITS & PERKS:

We offer competitive salaries and we measure this as your pay being in the 80th percentile (at a minimum) for similar roles in the Country or State from where you will be working.

Our benefits are all aimed at supporting a life well lived, both at work and away from work.
