JOB OVERVIEW

I need a developer that understands React. He or she should know the difference between a class component and a functional component and be prepared to primarily use the functional version. Understanding hooks will help a Upgrade to see actual info is not necessary to be able to build apps completely from end-to-end, as the developer will work directly with me and I will provide guidance on specific tasks.

The developer needs to have a good understanding of Javascript in general, such as various array functions (map, filter, reduce, etc), fat arrow functions, promises (preferably including async/await syntax), object spreading, and the like.

I use Typescript in my React apps. While it is not necessary to understand it immediately, if the developer doesn't know it, he or she will need to be prepared to learn it quickly.

A basic understanding of how to put together the UI is Upgrade to see actual info doesn't have to be perfect, but the less I have to "clean up" UI the better. That does mean that understanding when to use what HTML tag and how to use CSS is important. I have generally been using Bootstrap 4 for UI framework.

Some other things that would be a big plus, but are not required:
Experience using Amazon Web Services, such a APIs, Lambda functions, DynamoDB, and tools like Serverless or Amplify used to deploy these things.

Experience with WordPress would be great, as I do still do some integration with WordPress sites, primarily through custom plugins.

I would strongly prefer someone willing to work at least a few hours daily at a time that overlaps with me. I am in the US in the Pacific time zone. I use Slack as my primary method of communication. I also have a Zoom account for when it is helpful to screenshare or use voice to provide guidance.

Sufficiently good English to understand tasks and have a technical conversation is important. I am not concerned about some challenges with grammar or pronunciation - my wife is not a native English speaker and I like her just fine. :)

I am not expecting to find the best developer in the world or even in the Philippines. I do want to find someone that has good, useful skills I can put to work immediately and is prepared for constant learning and growth, above and beyond the actual work. I've been a teacher and mentor and will be happy to help another developer get better at his or her craft.

I will want to see code samples as part of hiring, so please be ready with that.
