JOB OVERVIEW

Adbeat is looking for a talented Dev Ops Engineer with a keen interest in automation and distributed systems to join our small but growing team. This is a great fit for you if you are capable of driving execution and improvement for all operations infrastructure across our entire development team. You will drive automation, scaling, and monitoring of hundreds of servers in AWS + all of our proxy servers in 22 countries and 25 cities across the US.

Does working with other experienced developers to develop highly automated and scaleable infrastructure sound exciting to you? How about improving your skills by constantly testing your own ideas, implementing best practices, and using best in class tools? If so, read on!

Here’s What To Expect

You will need to use a mix of (primarily open source) tools and custom code/scripts to monitor, deploy, stress-test and optimize both back-end and production systems used by Adbeat.

You’ll use Python, PHP, SQL, Javascript, Java, Bash and Ansible, in addition to whatever technologies we should be using but aren’t yet - we’re looking for your expert guidance here.

In the first 30 days you’ll assume responsibility for monitoring and maintaining the customer-facing servers used by the production and test environments. You’ll also take responsibility for the manual ops-related tasks currently being handled by the workflow team, which involves trouble-shooting and recovering from any production data pipeline failures.

Within 90 days you’ll be improving the customer-facing infrastructure, and coming up to speed on both the backend web crawling and big data (Hadoop/Cascading) workflow environments. In particular you’ll understand the Ansible scripts used for deploying and running workflows on AWS.

By 6 months you will have cleaned up the Ansible scripts, improved and hardened our server/service monitoring and alerting.

Finally, you will use (and improve) our AWS cost monitoring tools so that the dev team and Founder has a very clear picture of our monthly infrastructure cost break out, and we can easily identify areas for cost savings. You will drive efficiency in our infrastructure costs.

Because you are motivated to constantly improve, you will stay on top of industry best practices, follow thought leaders in cloud computing, infrastructure management, and automation to bring in and test fresh ideas.

You’ll take your knowledge and make sure it’s easy to transfer across the organization by creating and documenting standards and best practices in our internal wiki.

You’ll keep an eye out for opportunities to increase your value and grow your responsibilities and skills. Be open to learning and taking on new work outside of Dev Ops as your role matures and your ability to contribute grows.
