Independent consultant with more than 10 years of combined experience in management consulting, co-founding startups, and leading several R&D andt echnopreneurship projects geared towards helping the Philippines to leapfrog technology development and enabling technology startups to accelerate their growth. Seeking for an opportunity to develop deep expertise in innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital space.
Some of My Work Accomplishments are as follows:
> WORK CLOSELY WITH THE CEO ON MARKET STRATEGY, ORGANISATIONAL DESIGN, AND PERFORMANCE
(a.) I am confident about my strategic management skills, and I have a talent for knowing what to look for and where to look at to realize the objective or goals.
(b.) With the projects that I have been a part of I have always been heavily involved in the conceptualization, planning, and organizational design. For example, with my CloudTop Project, I was involved with (1) planning on how to seamlessly integrate the 5 project components, (2) securing funding, (3) d
(c.) With my DOST-UP Enterprise Center Project, I drafted the Operations Manual. I was also active in proposing and implementing marketing plans to promote the Center, establish the "brand" and attract more locators. I pitched joining conferences, exhibits and attending networking events to create awareness. I also introduced the concept of "Open House" so that potential locators could get a feel of the "Enterprise Community" and experience the "mentoring component" of the Center. I also worked on our marketing collateral which effectively communicated our service offering and competitive advantage.
(d.) With my recent engagement as the COO of Entrepzone International Inc, I drafted a Business Model Canvas to enable us to grow our business idea into something bigger. Unfortunately, my family experienced significant financial loss, so I had to work and leave our struggling startup.
> MANAGE AND COACH TEAM LEADERS OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, OPERATIONS, MARKETING AND FINANCE FUNCTIONS
(a.) I'd like to believe that I am good at managing and coaching a team as evidenced by my colleagues seeking my insights on their work problems be it Finance, Procurement or Operations. I enjoy giving them guidance on how to navigate the restrictive government policies to achieve our end goal or meet our R&D requirements. When they tell me something is impossible, I probe why they think it is impossible and explore the options on how to make it possible. Because of this approach, I was able to source and release the budget for our activities on time, get budget realignment approval when we need it and address bottlenecks. For example, releasing our Mock Satellite which is being held at Customs within a week as we need to display it at the National Science and Technology Week. Our broker told us that they cannot commit to releasing it in a week's time, but I didn't take NO for an answer and helped them find ways of achieving the impossible.
(b.) I have also provided operations, finance and communications guidance to our Project Leaders who have a doctorate degree.
> HELP TEAM LEADERS ESTABLISH DOCUMENTED SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES
(a.) In my previous engagements, I have devised and introduced reporting matrices which captures all the pertinent data needed to be documented to ensure that the organization will withstand attrition and make it easier for the successor to catch up on work.
(b.) I have also introduced the concept of Work Breakdown Structure and PERT to better plan and monitor the progress of projects.
(c.) With my short stint as Legal Staff (functioning as the OIC of the Legal department) at a Rural Bank, I have introduced an efficient way of assigning Job/Case to Legal Staff and improved their reporting templates and system to ensure that legal concerns are properly documented and addressed in a timely manner. My obsession with understanding how things work and analyzing reports coupled with my excellent monitoring skills enabled the bank to save on mounting penalties incurred. I found out that one of the Legal Staff is deliberately delaying payments to respective government agencies as she's been using her Cash Advances for personal use.
> ADVISE CEO ON FINANCIAL POSITION AND DIRECTION OF THE COMPANY
(a.) I am skilled at preparing and evaluating Financial Reports in relation to Work Plan and Milestones as Funding Agencies normally evaluate our financials in terms of the agreed Work Plan and Milestones.
(b.) I normally advise our director on the budget planning and the status of our financials. I also recommend justifications and/or budget realignment to better address the changing needs of the projects. With government projects, budget realignment is more complicated because of the many restrictions and policies which I successfully navigated smoothly. I also advise the Director on budget cuts, approving project proposals and sourcing the additional funds needed.
(c.) The CEO could benefit from my keen attention to details and excellent integrative analytical skills. I could provide him with the tools and reports necessary to have a good grasp of the financial position of the company, which is crucial in setting the direction of the company.
> RECRUITING AND MOTIVATING HIGH-PERFORMANCE PLAYERS
(a.) With my engagement in Government-funded R&D Projects (DOST-UP Enterprise Center, CloudTop Program and PCARI) I was highly involved with the recruitment of Project Staff from negotiating deferred payment deals and posting to Jobstreet to evaluating applicants and short-listing them for the skills assessment and Final Interview with the Director. To ensure that we get the right candidate, I developed my recruitment process and matrix which will ensure that candidates are not only objectively assessed based on their paper credentials but as well as on their potential, passion, dedication, honor and "for the love" mindset.
(b.) Because government-funded R&D projects usually demand long hours and compensation and rates are usually not competitive, I see to it that we hire a competent person who's passionate to learn and excel and has a "for the love" mindset. To keep them, I sell them the idea of professional growth and unparalleled training and exposure which the "startup nature" of the project offers. The startup nature of the projects enables personnel to gain transferable skills (including planning, coordination, negotiation, creative problem solving, flexibility, adaptability, resourcefulness, analytical skills, etc.). It also exposes key personnel to various aspects of the business such as HR, Marketing, Operations, and Finance.
(c.) OTHER CONSULTING ENGAGEMENT INCLUDES: (1) Editorial Staff engagement with the Research Magazine published by the University of the Philippines - Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (UP OVCRD) contributing to the editing and coordination needs of the publication; (2) Conceptualization, Design, Planning, and Implementation of “Innovation Management and Technopreneurship Seminar” conducted by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers - Bataan Chapter and Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines - Bataan Chapter and; (3) Events Management, Logistics, and Souvenir Program Cover Design related to the Oath-taking Ceremony for New Certified Public Accountants (in 2014 and 2016).
“I have found someone who is smart, has a great work ethic and is easy to work with.”
