Being an online freelancer is tantamount to being a virtual assistant. I have been a VA since 2009 and have been assisting clients in various responsibilities such as keyword research, using google sheets (excel) to gather data and analysis, email systems like GrooveHq for email support, gmail, yahoo mail, mailchimp for email campaigns, entering data in CMS websites (wordpress) and so on.
At a young age, I learned English through watching films on HBO, Cinemax, Cartoon Network and movie houses. The credit really goes to our teachers who have taught us very well that is why I can speak and write good English. And kudos to my favorite Literature Teacher Ms. Jonebeth! Moreover, my first Job was with a Call Center Company in Manila (Sitel Corporation) where I answered 60 inbound calls daily coming from Canada and USA as a Microsoft Customer Support Representative.
In the early years of my online freelancing career, I was a writer and I have used several platforms back in the day to speed up the process. Article writing had been a hit before and it was those days where "Content is hailed as King" (and yes it is still King today - but many factors have changed - SEO wise). We used to have article spinners and then upload the articles to article website directories and so on. I have had experience writing for clients but eventually I focused more on Graphic Design and Web development.
In my 8+ years being a VA, I've worked with clients using several strategies to boost sales and marketing. And the goal is to always get good SEO ranking, especially Google! It was hard, really hard even up today. Why SEO? so there is generic traffic coming from search engines eventually generating leads and then sales. The products most online marketers sell were Affiliate products either coming from Clickbank or other CPA websites like MarketHealth. While others sell their own products or services.
As a freelancer, I am mostly a web designer, and WordPress is mainly the CMS platform I've used for many years. Some of the WordPress websites I did for like four+ years ago are still up and running. I've also had experience using other platforms like shopify, and tried bootstrap and foundation. As for ecommerce, I used the woocommerce plugin for WordPress, had a few tries using CubeCart, and Magento...
Graphic Design is my forte. I have been into art and design since High School and grew a career in designing graphics, logos, branding, and later on websites and some apps. I also am good in video editing and tried a few audio recordings as video narrations. As a graphic designer, I learned how to do background research, mood boards, sketching, mockups, before implementing the design into digital artworks using the adobe software like illustrator and photoshop. I believe that researching and designing by hand first has given me more creativity and ideas before arriving to a final output.
I have 2 years of experience as a Microsoft Customer Support Representative at Sitel Corporation (Manila). I assisted US and Canadian customers identify the problems they have with their products and provided them with their support options. As a VA for several years, I have considered myself as a Technical Support Specialist as well to any of the issues my clients were having with their websites, servers and what not.
As a sideline, I am an accredited Real Estate Salesperson here in the Philippines. I am able to sell Housing and Land properties here by law registered under HLURB. I have designed and built a website for one particular Housing Project here and still trying to close a sale. I haven't dedicated enough time selling houses really, but I ventured on the online side of things.
I had a 1 year experience managing a team here in an office setup. Our client was from Mexico and our task was to build 50 websites (Health and Wellness niche). We did the keyword research, product hunting, article writing, website design, website development, video creation, back-linking, and SEO. Now, as a freelancer, I manage my own projects, manage workloads, submit proposals and meet deadlines, - even outsourced some of the work to other talented artists to maximize time and productivity.
