I worked in the self-publishing industry for more than 6 years as a sales consultant. We cold email and cold call writers and offer to publish their work and market it thru social media advertising and drive traffic to their websites. I also worked with a travel company as a customer service representative. I've also been a technical support representative to an internet service provider company.
