I am a retired surgical nurse from the U.S.
In my 25 years as a nurse, I have held many different positions. I have experience in long-term care from early in my career. Not only did I work as a supervisor and medication nurse, but also as a hands-on caregiver. The experience of working with the elderly and handicapped was very humbling, as well as challenging. I worked for a short time in a chiropractor's office, assisting with patient care and performing base-line tests. I was also the scheduling coordinator for a home health agency, in charge of scheduling over 100 nurses and aides for home visits. After that, I was offered a job at an orthopedic hospital, where I worked as a floor nurse for two years before discovering my love for surgery. I was 21 years old when I started assisting with major orthopedic procedures, such as joint replacements, spinal procedures, and reconstructive surgeries. I also assisted with the more fast-paced outpatient procedures and found this was my "niche".
I worked as an outpatient surgical nurse for 23 years. During that time, I worked as a scrub-nurse, pre and post-op nurse, infection control nurse, materials manager, and scheduler.
“For years, I maxed out my hours, got burnt out, and the quality of my work would start to go down. I decided to take the leap, hire correctly, and now it frees up my time to focus on growing the business.”
